Benefits of 健康服务 to Students

Designated fees paid by all Northwest students enrolled in classes each semester fund the many services and initiatives that 健康服务 offers. Students benefit in the following ways:

Clinical Health Services

  • Students are not responsible for the costs associated with routine office visits, which include consultation, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations only.
    • Please note that students are responsible for the cost of the following type of services that 可以 be associated with their office visit:
      • 程序 (including, but not limited to, toenail removal, stitches, wart treatment, 等.)
      • 实验室工作 (including, but not limited to, pregnancy tests, urine tests, blood work, pap smear testing, 等.)
      • 注射 (including, but not limited to, vaccinations, IV fluids, 等.)

      Any charges for which a student is responsible that is not covered by their health insurance (if applicable) will be charged to the student's University account.
  • Patient education during visits to 健康服务
  • Liaison with Mosaic Medical Center Medical 工作人员 and Hospital Emergency 工作人员 and Mental Health Unit to promote access and quality care for students
  • 预防 and response to emergencies in the student population

  • Eating Disorders Team for Northwest students
  • 24-hour emergency resource for Residential Life and the campus at large in addressing students at risk

健康教育 & 预防

  • Health promotion and health education opportunities for students (speakers, 意识周, 校园活动, 等.)
  • Grant writing to obtain resources that address a variety of health, wellness, and safety issues
  • Peer Education program
  • Programs for students who have experienced difficulties related to alcohol use
  • Advisement of student groups
  • Notification of the campus community of health risks and recommendations related to illness
  • Collaboration with campus TV, 广播, and newspaper to provide health and wellness information to the campus community
  • Participation in all SOAR summer orientation sessions
  • Participation in Transfer Student Orientation
  • Programs during Advantage Week on health, safety and campus resources
  • 预防 of communicable diseases, including (but not limited to) tuberculosis, meningococcal disease, 麻疹, 流感, hepatitis through vaccination and education
  • Coordination of health services in planning for response to bioterrorism and other emergency situations

  • Certified Peer Education training for students (RA's, Peer Educators, Community Leaders, 等.)
  • Bystander Intervention training (Green Dot)
  • Training for University employees on health and disease
  • Training/Educational opportunities for students (University Seminar presentations, Residence Hall presentations, student group presentations, 等.)
  • 培训 for student groups on diverse health and wellness topics, upon request
  • Continuing education, training, and professional development for 健康服务

Campus and Community Partnerships

  • Participation in the Behavioral Intervention Team to address at-risk students
  • Collaboration with International Involvement Center in providing services for international students, including education about health issues and insurance
  • Collaboration with departments within Student Affairs to enhance shared initiatives involving alcohol responsibility, diversity and inclusion, 志愿服务, and violence prevention. 
  • Participation in Missouri Partners in 预防 (PIP), which is a state-wide organization directed at coordinating campus and community efforts to address alcohol and drug abuse
  • Participation in Maryville Partners in 预防 (MVPIP), which is a local group that strengthens campus and community efforts to address alcohol and drug abuse
